Science

Apparently there is progress being made on a vaccine against addiction. Obviously this is good news for anyone who is struggling or knows someone who is struggling with a drug addiction problem. I found that the article had two great points that I wanted to address. The first is that addiction cannot be beaten by medicine alone. We have to realize that healing takes place in both the mind and the body. The vaccine that is being developed can do the work for the body, but it is only through support, therapy, and a desire to get better that a person struggling with addiction can heal his mind.

The second great point is that advances in science take time. I understand why companies are in a rush for their research and development to give quick and immediately commercially viable results. However, let us take into account that even in today’s age of rapid fire scientific advancement; huge breakthroughs take time and money to achieve. A perfect example is that of the cellphone. The smartphone was not immediately viable when research on it first began; however there were enough people that had the foresight to maintain the projects which gave us everything from automobiles to computers and Nokia Cellphones and mobile devices (we thought we’d mention one of the many brands  out there). Scientists need time to make breakthroughs, let’s give it to them.
