With so many people trying to lower their carbon foot print, there does not seem to be many arguments as to why people should not harness solar power. The challenge now is the same one that existed at the inception of the solar power industry: convincing people that it is worth the money invested. It can be difficult to convince people that they are paying for a long term investment. You may not see huge returns, but every year you will make some of it back until they pay for themselves. At that point your solar panels will be making you money!

There has been a lot of buzz going around with new types of solar devices that are hitting the market: solar paint, solar shingles, and even solar film. The biggest problem is that there is a lot of confusion about solar power. Not many people knows how solar energy works, and sensational news stories don’t exactly help. There is so much information out on the web, but how much of it is true? Here are some myths about solar energy.

Solar power doesn’t work when it is cloudy.

This couldn’t be more further than the truth. You can have solar panels in almost any type of weather or climate. Surprisingly enough solar panels are actually less efficient in extremely hot temperatures, like when it is summer in the South West. The only time you won’t be generating power is when the sun is down. The amount of power generated depends on factors like angle of the roof compared to the sun, if there is anything blocking the sun, and the efficiency of the panels themselves.

Solar power isn’t very efficient right now so it is better to wait a few years for the new models to come out.

Wrong again! It is true that solar panels have gotten more efficient over the past couple of years, however only on the magnitude of 5- 10 % efficiency. Solar panels have changed very little in the past decade and only in the past year have prices on panels dipped by a significant margin. To build upon this there are many federal tax rebates or programs that will help you pay for the installation costs.

Solar panels need a large amount of maintenance to keep them working.

There are no moving parts in solar panels, so they need very little maintenance. The most work you might have to do for them is hose them down once a year if somehow the rain didn’t properly clean them. Ff you check the power output once in awhile you will easily be able to tell if they are not working properly. I can speak from experience that a majority of solar panel systems are in fact, “set it and forget it.”

Installing solar panels will make my property tax increase

In fact, this is the exact opposite of what normally happens! The government is literally throwing money at anybody who installs solar power. In most cases your property tax will go down or worst case stay the same. However, the value of your house will increase by a substantial amount (depending how much your rig is powering), and it will also help you sell your house much faster. Tell the potential buyers that they don’t need to pay for hot water or heating for as long as they keep the system, and you are sure to get an offer.
Solar power reduces our carbon footprint and moves us that much father away from relying on imports to support our energy needs. You can reduce the amount of money you spend energy bills for as long as you have the system. They will pay for themselves and then some!

4 Myths about Orthodontic Treatment for Teens and Adults

Various forms of orthodontic treatment have been around for a long time, evolving from primitive processes to highly complex and advanced solutions. Orthodontic treatment is a fantastic example of advanced science and technology contributing to the betterment of human health and well-being. There are many myths surrounding orthodontics, however. Some of these myths may prevent people from seeking treatment that can improve their appearance, better their lifestyle, and boost their confidence. Below I will set the record straight on four common misconceptions regarding orthodontics.

Myth #1 – I am too old to have orthodontics done.

The first myth that many seem to buy into is that there is an age limit for orthodontic treatment. While some typically assume that orthodontic treatment is performed primarily on the young, the truth is, there is no age limit. Starting younger is optimal because the jaw and bone structure are still developing and will make certain procedures easier. But truthfully, a skilled orthodontist who has access to modern and cutting edge technology won’t have problems treating adults and correcting problems with teeth alignment. In fact, 1 out of 5 orthodontic patients are adults, which further proves that one is never too old for teeth straightening.

Myth #2 – Braces are embarrassing and ugly.

Part of what prevents some from pursuing braces is the embarrassment factor. This ties into the “I’m too old” myth. While as a kid, some people would say it is expected; as an adult, and especially in business settings, having metal wires and brackets blocking your teeth is hardly ideal. This is where advanced treatments come into play. A newer form of braces, known as Incognito Hidden Braces, is quickly rising in popularity amongst teen and adult orthodontic patients. These braces are hardly detectable because they are placed behind the teeth, and unless you tell anyone, others would probably not even notice you’re wearing them. Incognito Braces are unique in that they continue to straighten your teeth while you freely smile, enabling you to show off your pearly whites without embarrassment.

Myth #3 – Braces are way too expensive and I don’t know where to get them

I will not lie and say that braces are cheap. Depending on how long you have to wear them and how much work needs to be done, treatment can get pricey. Lingual braces cost more than standard metal braces because orthodontists need special training in order to install them. However, if you have dental insurance that covers orthodontic care, some companies are willing to pay 80% if not the full cost of braces. Most orthodontists also offer financing options, which will make the treatment costs easier on your pocket. Money aside, taking care of your teeth is important and is a great investment that will benefit you in the long run. As far as finding an orthodontist that specializes in lingual braces, be sure to check out reviews online! If you live in a larger area, a task like finding incognito braces in NYC should be no problem at all.

Myth #4 – You need to get full braces even if you only want a few front ones straightened.

While you can easily get full orthodontic work, there are treatment options for people whose problems only involve the front teeth. Incognito Lite Braces provide treatment only where it is necessary. They are customized and applied only to teeth that require correction. What is even better is they can show results in as little as 6 months. These are also a cheaper alternative if you only have a few aesthetic concerns with your teeth.

The idea of wearing braces can make some people nervous. Whether it has something to do with inconvenience, discomfort, aesthetics, or age, each has his or her own reasons. While braces may not be necessary for everyone, you shouldn’t let any of these myths prevent you from seeking treatment, and achieving happiness! If you are having problems with your teeth, whether it’s health or cosmetic related, start by consulting with your orthodontist.

It has become something that doesn’t need to be advertised and yet every company freely advertises many social media sites in the process of advertising their own company. Social media now touches every piece of my life.

It is where I had to look to hear about school events and to let the people running them know I would attend. It is how I find jobs, by linking up with contacts online and creating a profile for companies to contact me through. Everywhere I go I see the symbols of social media sites being displayed on posters, in shop windows, and even on some food containers. My life has become so tied into certain online websites, that even if I want to quit visiting them I cannot. People will continue to want to contact me through them, and I might miss out on event postings that I need to attend. This is why social websites now are lasting longer than ever. Nobody wants to join a new website because everything from business to school is tied into the ones that already exist.

We are so in touch that we have forgotten about some of the blessings of being out of touch. My dad “forgets” his phone whenever he can to get away from the people and adds constantly calling for his attention. The fact that people can reach you in so many ways can be tiring and stress provoking. But those of us who do want a break, feel as though we cannot take one because we will miss out on what is important. It use to be that people would only contact you if it was about something important, now each day is spent absorbing tons of information that often has no major importance at all. So my advice is that maybe once in a while we should all forget our phones at home. If more people try this we may realize just how much of the unimportant we could deal without.

In a slow economy small businesses must struggle to keep up with their competitors and sometimes to just break even. Online there are so many different tips for what you can do to pull through these difficult times, but it really depends on the type of small business you own. Figuring out how to bring in new clients is about marketing in a way that highlights the aspects of what makes your small business an essential to your intended market. This isn’t always easy because you may have what feels like a very average small business. For example if you own a bakery, you may feel as though there are tons of other bakeries that make the same type of pastries or other baked goods that you do.

One of the most basic steps to giving your small business an advantage over others, is remembering to give yourself regular evaluations. If you really want to change the way your business is received, you should reflect on it with an honest and open mind. Make a list of the most positive and negative aspects of your company, and use this information to start thinking of creative ways to improve upon the negative while accentuating the positive. This process of reflection may surprise you because it forces you to take the time to think critically about all aspects of your business and not just a select few. Also make sure to write down ways that your business may be able to save a bit of extra money, this might entail doing a bit of online research into tax deductions or credits. The infographic below was one online source that I found particularly insightful for small business to know about the new 1099K tax form. It’s nice because it simplifies some very complex and confusing information into a infographic that is easy to understand in detail and yet quickly process.

Overall, I strongly feel that the greatest skill a small business can rely on in this slow market is creativity. If you can learn to see your own business in a new light, it will allow you to help others see it that way too.

This infographic made by outright.com shows how the new 1099-K affects small businesses.

The speed at which information can be transferred is getting more insanely fast each day. There are phones now that just tap together to share photos without even having the number of the person with whom you are sharing them. On my phone it only takes a few seconds to share a photo and I thought that was incredibly fast. The top stories in technology news are generally about the ongoing competition of tech companies everywhere, battling it out to edge past their competitors with new features or styles that help them rise above. This is only possible because customers feel the need to have the next best thing before anybody else. Customers who pay a high price for a new computer or cellphone don’t want to find out a few months later that something else is going to take its place. This puts companies in a bit of a bind. They don’t want customers getting angry because they just bought a new laptop, which is suddenly old news after only a few months. In order to keep customers loyal they must make an effort to keep their products at the cutting edge of what’s on the market, and this becomes increasingly difficult to maintain.

Today the technology headlines were filled with a courtroom dispute between competing technology companies over patent violations. The companies at the top of the market are concerned that their products, and the thought process that goes into creating them are being ripped off by other companies creating what are essentially mirror images. So where should companies draw the line? Some believe that companies mirroring each other’s products is unavoidable. Many companies probably wouldn’t exist without this. But shouldn’t their be a limit to just how much companies piggyback one another?

One major change this past school year in classrooms around the country was due to the suddenly affordable e-readers. I love to read so even before e-readers were popular I owned an original version of one. It made sense for me to pay a bit more for my e-reader when it offered much less expensive book prices, and in some cases free books. Now, thanks to the level of competition for e-reader companies, they have had to greatly lower the prices of their devices so as not to lose customers for their books altogether. This means that this past holiday season many happy book lovers found e-readers in their stockings. When I returned to school from winter break, almost everyone in my english classes had one, and those that didn’t professed their undying love for traditionally bound books with textured pages and the smell of inked paper. I love traditional books too, but buying an e-reader gave me many important advantages that I could not let pass me by.

E-readers are especially important for students of all ages, because suddenly required texts are not as expensive as they once were. As an English major, you can imagine why not having to pay the regular price for all my books was a blessing. Also if texts were somewhat old, but not classics they tended to be less than a dollar to purchase. There are some downsides of course, and one of these was that you couldn’t sell your text back at the end of the course. You may have gotten a discounted price, but you had no chance of making that money back. This is still better than the many websites available for renting books because for those books you pay a price and are left with nothing. Some of my textbooks were worth having copies of so I didn’t regret getting them. The other more frequently mentioned issue is that readers do not have the availability of books that a bookstore does, because ebook databases are still catching up. This is only a small problem in my opinion, because since I bought my first e-reader there has been a major improvement in the availability of the books I want. I rarely ever find a book that I cannot get some version of online.

As far as the upcoming school year, I think the amount of e-readers in classrooms is only going to increase with time. They are a great way of cutting down long term expenses and their many pluses outweigh their few negatives.

I just graduated from college and one of the things that I will miss most about living on campus is the free computer support. It’s not just that it was free, it was also incredibly convenient, with staff members that I could trust. If I had a problem I knew that I could easily drop my laptop off on campus or have someone look at in in the IT office. This was very comforting to me when I had twenty page papers to write and powerpoint presentations to create. The only downside was that sometimes in order to get real help I had to go through students who didn’t know a thing about computers. I didn’t blame them though, because I knew they probably just got stuck working in IT for work study. No matter what I always made it to someone who could help me, and since it was free I could not have asked for more. Now that I no longer have the safety net my school once provided for me, the choice of where to go for computer support is somewhat disheartening. There are so many places to choose from and it’s hard to decide which ones are reliable. I hear so many horror stories from friends who pay a fortune just to have their laptop looked at in store, only to find out these “professionals” can’t actually help them at all.

Therefore, today I found some possible solutions for all my computer worries before they become realities. One of the websites I found that looked great was called Computer Help Today, they can connect to your computer remotely to remove the System Fix virus. I know this has been a big problem for some so I was happy to see that listed on their home page. There is also a site called Geeks Mobile which does both remote and onsite computer repair, and they take care of everything whether you are having trouble installing a program, need maintenance, or even just general repairs. The last site that looked great was All IT, which provides IT support for everyone, including small and nationwide businesses. They also have remote support like the other two sites, and I especially like this feature in all three of them. After doing some research I am no longer stressed about having reliable IT when I need it. All three of these sites have the information of what they actually help with on their home page, so that you are not left with an overhead fee on something they don’t fix.

My father and I are always trying to find that groundbreaking seed of an idea that turns out to be worth millions. We make notes on what is selling fast online and on the websites that are getting the most hits, we also think about the things in our everyday lives that could be improved upon. If I see an article about new money making idea I send it to him and vice versa. I also love websites where people share their own experiences of formulating successful ideas with in-depth descriptions or videos documenting their process. I study the ways that other people have made a name for themselves, so that I may put these methods to use with my own talents. After all the time I have spent in researching how others made it big, I believe one key factor in coming up with my own original idea is in keeping my mind open and readily aware of the possibilities around me. This morning while I was waiting for the train a woman started talking to me about how she wanted to start a blog with all the inspirational experiences and stories she had gathered over the years. I was able to give her some advice on good blogging websites, and somehow this turned into giving her names of sites she could make money off of online. Suddenly, she had a notebook out and was jotting down all of the names I was telling her. Just like me she knew that the internet holds so many possibilities, and just like me she was constantly searching for the opportunity of a lifetime. I sometimes feel like the internet provides a free lottery for us all, the chances of winning are small but the prize is great.

To many people, happiness means different things. For many, it means being surrounded by friends and loved ones. For others, it’s being financial comfortable. But regardless what happiness means to you, there is scientific research that proves what exactly makes you happy and what can keep you happy.

Researchers suggest counting your blessings every so often. This type of recognition can help to keep you grounded and remind you how lucky you truly are. Researchers also suggest listening to music daily. Music can be inspiring and serves as a gateway to your emotions. Music can trigger the part of the brain that releases endorphins that help to keep your body and mind relaxed and calm.

Another important thing to remember is to nurture your spirituality. No matter what religion you may or may not follow, meditation or prayer can keep you centered and help you to focus on yourself and those around you. By taking time out of a hectic schedule to just sit down and breathe, it can significantly help to lower your stress levels, physical tension, and anxiety.

Exercise and physical motion is also a great way to remain happy. Activities like jogging and running help to release endorphins which cause a positive emotion in the brain.

Happiness may mean different things to different people, but at the end of the day, it is what you make it.
